I think judging a man by today's standards of laws and with a frenzied zeal to accuse just about anyone and everyone of racism is sheer folly and ignorance. The conditions of Jeffersons time, the state of slavery in each state, and the laws that were being changed regarding when a slave can be freed and at what cost to the "owner" and to the freed slave Did Jefferson wrestle with the question of slavery? Of course he did but Moyers did not and is quick to be judge and jury in condeming this key figure in our history while masking his hatchet with dulcet , professorial tones. He is not a professor nor delves into the life of Jefferson and his struggles to keep the Union alive. He only , like a thief, settles into the dark closet of the man and chooses the dirt on the bottom of his shoes. Disgraceful. . For instance, the Law, in Jeffersons time, required slave owners to provide for their support, financially, for life and could not throw them away once their age set in ! Washington had no such law on his side when he died and could free his slaves; when Jefferson died he had too much debt and couldn't free all his numerous slaves. As an aside , Contemporary critics, like Moyers, don't mention the people Jefferson had trained , by others , to be cooks and craftsman work to insure a job in their future. HIs children by Sally Hemmings point out that Jefferson was compassionate at all times and you aren't left of a picture, as Moyers would have it, of a man with a whip in his hand! However, an examination of the slave law and Jefferson's poor finances, explains why his lover , Sally Hemmings , might have not been freed as she would have 3 days to declare independence with her own money or be placed , with her children, in slavery once more. Many slave owners , with conscience , saw what would happen with these laws in replacing one owner with another?! Regarding Jefferson's finances, he was poor in biz and had to use his slaves as collateral to the banks where he borrowed , so he would have no right to free them in these circustances. In all these cases, Jefferson was in a financial and legal bind , even as a former president, to free his slaves and could only do so by letting them escape from his plantation and offer up the excuse he didn't even know it since no one told him. Moyers and Co. is once again stirring up the entire story of slavery by assuming the false role as an historial expert on slavery and Jefferson, and beating on the reputation of a dead president without any warrant nor call for his abuse of the man. The denigration of our past presidents and our national heritage is truly the socialistic goal of those people and their hidden backers that want you to replace any and all revered political figures in our history and install their far left agenda that calls for the elimination of all the freedoms our forefathers spelled out in our Constitution. They are the false prophets of DEI and LGBTQ that intend to drive stakes into the heart of our Republic while saying they are saving democracry.....their idea of democracy where the population of the country has no say at all! Moyers is deporable with his smooth intonations as he narrates and slips in false indignation at Jefferson's attitude towards slavery. In the final analysis , Moyers was not born in Jefferson's time and as the saying goes.."Walk a mile in his shoes."

Some of NDT's ideas come across as narrow minded which is a turnoff to some folks. And it angers me as a pure open-minded scientist. NDT conveniently throws aside all other possibilities (including metaphysical) and his analogies are often uneducated or obscure. The truth is that science is an ever-changing endeavor and it's pretty obvious that as we learn and change future civilizations will become more like what we envision spiritual or supernatural to be in this age. The Bible isn't necessarily wrong on some points .. it's just how people in that day and age understood things around them to be. NDT doesn't want to admit any of this because the boarder topic being fed to him by Bill is too big even for him to try and explain. Bill Moyers was essentially trying to get diplomatic in this discussion similar to what Arthur C.
